L and I were at home today, and I decided that we needed to find something fun to play with. I took out some playdough given to us by a friend, and L loved it! Problem is... he loved putting it in his mouth. Maybe it was because I kept telling him to stop, but after a while, all he wanted to do was try to eat it. I decided that we needed to make some playdough, so that if it did manage to make past my watchful eyes, and into his mouth, it wouldn't be a problem.
So off to Pinterest I went... after a few minutes I was linked to this wonderful website: http://mommyfootprint.com/the-perfect-home-made-play-dough-recipe/
We had everything we needed in the kitchen. I followed the recipe exactly as written, and after adding red food coloring, we had Valentine's Day pink playdough. Though the excitement was short lived, I see a lot of playdough in our future!
Here's the recipe:
1 cup white flour
1/2 cup salt
2 tablespoon cream of tartar
1 tablespoon oil
1 cup water
food coloring
1/2 cup salt
2 tablespoon cream of tartar
1 tablespoon oil
1 cup water
food coloring
Mix the dry ingredients in a pot, and then mix in the vegetable oil. Stir until well mixed. Add water and cook over medium heat, stirring constantly for about 3 minutes. When the dough forms a clump in the middle of the pot, it is ready to go!
I dumped ours onto wax paper, and using plastic gloves I added red food coloring as I kneaded the dough. I read online that you can use kool-aid to dye the playdough... maybe next time! Store in a tight plastic container!
